It’s that time of year again! Join in Dine on the Door, benefiting Midland’s Open Door. Mark your calendar for November 10, 2020.
We are proud to be involved in this great cause for the 8th year in a row. In 2012, Dine on the Door was created to benefit Midland’s Open Door mission to serve Midland’s community. The Dine on the Door event is a significant fundraising opportunity for our community and this year is no exception.
This year we’ve created and donated a beauty of a table for the event…if I do say so myself! Our entry is a handcrafted coffee table that measures 16” high, 23” wide, and 48” long. It is made from a piece of salvaged live edge red oak. The bark of the wood has been removed, but the natural edge detail remains. This wood has rift sawn grain and crotch grain competing for a truly spectacular show. A walnut oil stain was chosen to highlight the grain and a polyurethane topcoat complete the tabletop. We’ve added steel legs for support without overwhelming the beautiful wood which is the true star of the show.
The coffee table is currently on display at Live Oak Coffeehouse in Midland.
Like everything else in 2020, this year’s auction will be a little different from past years by being conducted virtually. This annual celebration is expected to draw hundreds of past supporters as well as welcoming newcomers. This year you will be able to gather with friends, families, and co-workers in your own homes and still have the wonderful experience of Dine of the Door events of the past. The H Hotel will deliver catering to host homes to help you celebrate. You will hear stories of lives that have been changed with the help of Midland’s Open Door; positive changes made possible with your generous donations. You will also be able to enjoy the live, but virtual, auction for the donated tables.
The impressive line-up of donated tables for auction can be seen here.
I am proud to serve on the board of Midland’s Open Door and I hold the Dine on the Door event close to my heart. It has been an especially rough year for Midland residents and Midland’s Open Door is able to provide continued support for our community’s increased need because of events like these. Supporting our neighbors is the greatest way to strengthen our community. Coming together to provide assistance when someone is in need is the truest sign of unselfishness.
Midland’s Open Door offers assistance to members of our community by “meeting people in their moment of need and transitioning them from a point of crisis to a posture of hope.” Shelter, food, clothing, and counseling are a few of the services they offer to our community. If you or someone you know needs assistance from your neighbors at Midland’s Open Door, please call (989) 835-2291.
To register to attend or become an event host, sing up here. For more information on the services offered, or if you’d like to volunteer or donate, please refer to www.midlandopendoor.org.
Please help build a better community.
