Simmering Stovetop Potpourri

Create an Amazing Scent-Filled House for Pennies!

Whether large or small, the kitchen is one of the first rooms that your visitors will see.  If you have limited space, how can you distract your visitors from your restricted resources and add emphasis somewhere else?  One method is to appeal to their senses.  You can shift their focus by playing soothing music or by delivering the wafting scent of baking cookies to welcome your friends and family.

No time to bake!

But, if you are like most people, you have limited time to bake.  So, why not create some tempting scents by creating a homemade potpourri that you can simmer on your stovetop!  Simply place a pot of water on your stovetop and add a few fresh ingredients, herbs or spices.  Set your stove to simmer and stir the ingredients occasionally.  You should also refresh the water throughout the evening.

All Natural

There are so many fragrant combinations that you can create.  The wonderful thing is that you can use whatever you have on hand, there are no set rules!  Herbs, fruit, spices…  They all make amazingly aromatic scents without the use of chemicals or artificial ingredients.  Following will be a few recipes just to get you started, but first, here are some tips to keep in mind:

  • TIP #1:  Do not throw away potential ingredients such as apple peels, orange peels, end bits of ginger, cinnamon sticks, etc.  Save them all up by placing inside a Ziploc bag and place inside your freezer until you have enough to use!
  • TIP #2:  Instead of placing the ingredients in a pot to simmer on your stovetop, place all of the ingredients inside your crockpot and let it set on low all day.
